The Sara Schottenstein Foundation is proud to support cutting-edge gastric cancer research led by some of the foremost research institutions and nonprofits. Here are a few examples of our projects.
Stand Up To Cancer: Gastric Cancer Interception Research Team
The Sara Schottenstein Foundation, in conjunction with the Cless Family Foundation, provided a three-year grant to support the founding of Stand Up To Cancer’s (SU2C) Gastric Cancer Interception Research Team: Early Detection and Interception of Diffuse and Intestinal Gastric Cancer. Led by Andrew T. Chan, professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and director of cancer epidemiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, the SU2C Gastric Cancer Interception Research Team conducted rigorous studies to identify biomarkers that can indicate the early presence of gastric cancer.
Stanford School of Medicine: Innovative Cancer Clinical Trial
During her battle against gastric cancer, Sara and Jeff championed opening a clinical trial at Stanford for gastric cancer patients that would combine Keytruda with an IDO1 inhibitor.
Duke University Medical Center: Poliovirus Cancer Therapy
Sara and Jeff supported Duke’s pre-clinical research to evaluate extending the glioblastoma oncolytic polio immunotherapy to patients with gastrointestinal cancers.
Cincinnati Children’s: Pluripotent Stem Cell Facility
The Pluripotent Stem Cell Facility at Cincinnati Children’s is dedicated to providing high quality, well characterized, and reliably archived human embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells for distribution to researchers.
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute: Dr. Adam Bass’ Research
Adam Bass, MD, is a physician-scientist specializing in gastrointestinal cancer. His lab used cancer genome research to illuminate biological processes and therapeutic vulnerabilities in stomach, esophageal, and colorectal cancers.
Gastric Cancer Registry
The Gastric Cancer Registry is the only comprehensive gastric cancer registry in the U.S. The registry allows researchers to collect gastric cancer data from patients and their families, including lifestyle, health, and family history information, environmental factors, and physical samples.
